There are several strategies you can use for chess at the start. Here are a few.
Offensive: Bring out knights inward first. This gives you offensive capturing on the center 4 squares, a favorite for lots of players.
Offense/Defense: Bring out a central pawn first (middle two), then bring opposite side knight inward. Repeat for the other side.
Defense: Knights, then pawns, and bring out bishops. Then, castle kingside, and bring queen to corner.
